Thorpe Park, the Surrey theme park close to London, has revealed plans for a new rollercoaster, which, if approved, looks set to be the tallest ride in the UK.
Theme Park Insider magazine reports that the new rollercoaster will be the first new ride at the park in a decade, and park bosses are now entering a consultation phase, and asking the public for their views on the proposed ride.
Th Chertsey-based theme park already boasts an impressive roster of rides for thrill-seekers, including both the Steam and Swarm rollercoasters, with the latter being the last to open at the park in 2012.
However, Thorpe Park's proposed latest addition would undoubtedly become the star attraction.
According to rollercoaster rating site, RideRater, the new ride will stand at 236ft high, making it the tallest ride in the UK, beating the record set by Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s The Big One, which has held the aboveground record of 213ft since 1994.
The Big One is marketed as being 235 feet high, but this is measured from sea level. By the same measure, the proposed Thorpe Park ride would be almost 300 feet high.
The proposals for the rise were unveiled at an in-person event on 9 December, and further details have been released on the Thorpe Park website so members of the public can share feedback on the proposals via a public consultation.
